Book Design, Girls Write Now
Book cover design and concept for Girls Write Now 2012 anthology. The anthology acts as a fundraising and publicity tool, a final project, and a yearbook. The theme of the collection was "remix," a take on generations, change over time, tradition, or making one's own way.
The Client's concept for the cover centered around an ipod, with some sort of album displaying on the screen. I advised an alternative: something a bit more timeless, something with a longer shelf life. An artifact the girls and their mentors would be familiar with.
I came up with 10 quick typographical treatments of their title, name, and purpose, then created 8.5 x 11 fliers and posted them around town, photographing them in the environment. The board selected this combination of modern type on a warm-toned mural/graffiti background.

Fore Edge
One idea we did decide to carry over from modern technology was that of a status bar. We equipped each page of each section with an overflow mark, creating a fore edge design to allow readers to find sections more easily.
